Update Apple Watch: Track detection makes running easier

Apple has launched a new function for your Apple Watch in the Netherlands. With Track Detection, your Apple Watch keeps track of your run even better. That is how it works.

Read on after the ad.

Apple launches Orbit Detection on the Apple Watch

One of the new features in watchOS 9 is Orbit Detection. With this new feature, your Apple Watch automatically recognizes certain running routes. These routes must be existing, for example an athletics track. With Lane Detection, your Apple Watch combines the data from Apple Maps and the GPS of the watch, so that it can even keep track of which lane you are walking in exactly.

Thanks to this precise geographical data, your Apple Watch can track the workout even more accurately than before. Your Watch automatically registers the running route as soon as you arrive at a running track, for example. You still have to confirm yourself that you are going to use the route and in which lane you are going to run.

Another new feature: race against yourself

In addition to Orbit Detection, Apple has brought another new feature to your watch. With this new feature you can race against yourself by running the same running route several times. Once you have run a route a number of times, it is possible to improve your previous times. In this way you race against yourself, as it were.

To race against yourself you first have to put together a workout yourself, in order to determine the route in which you want to compete against yourself. You must then have run this route at least twice (or more) in order to improve your own records.

New features available in watchOS 9.2

The new sports features are part of watchOS 9.2 and are available in the Netherlands from today. Previously, the functions could already be used in European countries such as Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. Today, the Netherlands and France have been added to this series of countries. Belgium still has to wait for the new sports functions.
