Twitter removes the blue badge from accounts certified with the old system
Twitter had announced it and it is now a reality: accounts that were certified with the old system have lost their blue badge. This tick is now only available to people who pay for the Twitter Blue subscription.
Historically, the purpose of Twitter’s verification system was to ensure that accounts of notable people and organizations were indeed managed by those people and organizations. But it’s ancient history since Elon Musk is at the helm of the social network. You now have to pay to get the blue badge, meaning anyone can get it, even those posing as celebrities or companies.
So that’s where Twitter Blue comes in. The subscription offers several elements:
- Certified account with a blue tick
- Be at the top of replies, mentions, and search results. Tweets from certified users will be prioritized, which is intended to contribute to the fight against false information and spam. This function will be available soon.
- Twice as many ads. This function will be available soon.
- Possibility to publish longer videos (60 minutes).
- Videos in Full HD (1080p).
- Early access to some new features thanks to Twitter Blue Lab.
- Ability to edit a tweet up to five times within 30 minutes of posting it.
- Show their personality and choose an NFT that you own as their profile picture.
Twitter Blue costs €9.60 per month or €100.80 per year. Indeed, the prices displayed on the site are exclusive of tax. Also, it is good to note that the prices are higher since the application: 11€ per month and 114.99€ per year. This is explained by a 30% commission taken by Apple (iOS) and Google (Android). Twitter has therefore decided to pass it on to the price. The trick to avoid paying such a price is to take the subscription from the website and then log into the application.
