Microsoft to announce new Surface PCs on September 22

Microsoft announced today that it will be hosting a special event on September 22 at 5 p.m., which appears to be dedicated to the new Surface laptops. The company should also take this opportunity to present its new folding smartphone, the Surface Duo 2.

The invitation states that the company will “be talking about devices and Windows,” which could include partner devices, but the image in the invitation made it clear that there will be an announcement for a new Surface device. Indeed, the invitation includes an image of a shaded device, resembling a Surface, resting on its stand with an attached keyboard. It looks exceptionally thin, similar to Microsoft’s 2019 Surface Pro X, the laptop with an ARM processor.

Indeed, the Surface Pro series has had a similar design for years, so a change would be welcome to go along with Windows 11. The company is also expected to announce a new Surface Book 4, which may not offer a detachable display this year. The US giant is also expected to unveil a new Surface Pro 8 computer as well as a Surface Go 3.

Microsoft could present the successor to the Surface Duo

According to our colleagues at The Verge, we can also expect a successor to the Surface Duo. The Surface Duo 2 would contain the latest Snapdragon 888 processor, which would make the smartphone 5G compatible. It’s been several weeks since the design of Microsoft’s next smartphone leaked, and we even had the opportunity to see the Surface Duo 2 appear on the Geekbench 5 benchmark.

Based on previous leaks, the Surface Duo 2 should offer three photo sensors on the back, against only one on the original model. In addition to increasing its performance, Microsoft should therefore also drastically improve the photo part of its folding smartphone. However, the two screens as well as the hinge should remain almost identical to the previous model.

At any rate, meet on September 22 at 5 p.m. French time, to learn more about all new devices from Microsoft. After the conference, all eyes should be on the official launch of Windows 11, which will take place October 5.
