‘Twitter may offer podcasts: we already know this’
Twitter is working on a podcast function, according to the code of the app. Podcasts will have a separate tab in the app, but exactly how it will work is not yet clear. Twitter also launched all of its audio spaces, better known as Spaces.

Twitter podcasts
¨Podcasts are growing in popularity and many tech companies are aware of their potential. Spotify has been working on a strong focus on podcasts for some time, but now Twitter also has ambitions to open up to the medium. Earlier, other social media apps like Facebook and Reddit also showed interest in podcasts.
In Twitter’s code, the reverse engineer Jane Machun Wong discovered a separate tab for podcasts in Twitter. We see a microphone icon for the podcast tab at the bottom, but that’s about it. More details about how the feature works are not yet available.
Spaces and podcasts
Twitter also launched a system already very similar to podcast in May of 2021. In Spaces, speakers can talk in front of a group of listeners. you will then hear people speak live and it is also possible to ask for the floor in such a space, for example to ask a question to speakers. After a test phase, Spaces became available to everyone in October. In the meantime, it is also possible to publish recordings of those Spaces, making the system a bit like podcasts.

An important difference is that those recordings for Spaces are currently only available for 30 days. It’s not clear whether Twitter has plans to remove that limitation and turn recorded Spaces into some sort of podcast feature. This would also make podcasts on Twitter more accessible compared to other platforms.
It is noticeable that Twitter is experimenting with a lot of novelties at the same time. This year, for example, there was a downvote button for comments and a Communities system, which is a kind of reply to Facebook groups. In addition, Twitter is working on a news feature, the ability to write articles that are longer than the current limit of 240 characters.
