Twitter doesn’t understand its own algorithm
Elon Musk wants to reveal the secret of the Twitter algorithm. But that shouldincredibly embarrassing”. Because according to Musk, Twitter does not seem to understand its own algorithm.
The Twitter algorithm determines what content users see. For a long time it was considered a closely guarded secret. But on March 31, CEO Elon Musk now wants to reveal this secret. On the one hand, he wants to keep his promise of more transparency.
Twitter algorithm to go open source
On the other hand, the disclosure is intended to improve the Twitter algorithm. The code for recommending contributions should therefore become open source. Elon Musk recently shared this on his own Twitter channel with. At first, however, it should be “incredibly embarrassing”.
Because according to Musk, the Twitter algorithm is so complicated that the company does not understand it internally – a dig at its own programmers. Musk added: “People will discover a lot of stupid things, but we will fix the problems as soon as they are found.”
Our “algorithm” is overly complex & not fully understood internally. People will discover many silly things , but we’ll patch issues as soon as they’re found!

That’s why Twitter wants to publish its recommendation letter code
Musk’s goal: “We’re developing a simplified approach to deliver more compelling tweets, but that’s a work in progress. That will also be open source.” The tech billionaire also hopes to gain – or regain – more trust through disclosure.
Because that has suffered badly since Musk’s Twitter deal. After his $44 billion takeover, he quickly laid off around half of the 7,500 employees. What followed were numerous technical problems.
As Twitter also scaled back content moderation, many companies decided to suspend their advertising efforts on the platform. Musk’s attempt to generate revenue through the Beazhlabo Twitter Blue has so far been considered disappointing. With the release of the recommendation letter code on March 31, Musk wants to win back the playful trust.
