Toyota has developed a compact fuel cell module based on the Mirai. The four variants are very versatile.

Toyota has developed a fuel cell module that is based on the Mirai system and is said to be compatible with various vehicle types. Toyota plans to sell the modules to manufacturers of fuel cell products in spring 2021, announced the Japanese manufacturer. Among other things, they are suitable for trucks, buses, trains, ships and stationary generators.

“Demand has increased”

“Because measures for hydrogen have been introduced in all regions in recent years and many companies have entered the market, the need for technologies for hydrogen and fuel cell vehicles has increased,” writes Toyota.

In December, Toyota announced the start of advance sales for the revised Mirai fuel cell car. The new module is based on optimized components from the Mirai.

Compact module in four versions

Components for air and hydrogen supply, cooling and power control are connected in a compact manner. The module has a voltage range of 400 to 750 volts and weighs 240 or 250 kilos, depending on the variant.
