Touch ID under the display will be missing on iPhone 14 and 15 according to Kuo

Those waiting for the return of Touch ID will be disappointed to learn that the fingerprint sensor should not be present on the iPhone 14 and 15. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo initially suggested that Apple wanted to offer Touch ID under the screen with the iPhone 14, but the plans have obviously changed.

No Touch ID under the screen of the next iPhones

In a tweetKuo writes today that “latest survey indicates that new iPhones of 2023 and 2024 may not adopt Touch ID under the screen”. He adds that “Face ID with a mask on iPhone is already an excellent biometric solution”. It refers to the fact that it is possible to use Face ID with a mask since iOS 15.4. This requires having an iPhone 12 at least.

Previous leaks from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg revealed that Apple has been testing prototype iPhone 13s with Touch ID under the display. But the manufacturer ultimately decided not to go in this direction, preferring its facial recognition system. It’s true that having Face ID and Touch ID could be a nice security feature, but that’s not Apple’s plan.

Currently, iPhones with Touch ID are iPhone SE. For once, the fingerprint sensor is present on the Home button and not under the screen.
