Top 3 Movies That Prove Rich People Are Terrible

These popular movies like to remind us that greed is actually bad. However?

‘Greed is good’, we all know that term from the movie Wall Street. But the movies about having a lot of money generally show us the opposite. Perhaps we can take some solace in the fact that having a lot of money doesn’t make someone particularly interesting. So here’s a selection of some of the best movies about the power of greed and its bad streaks.

Top 3 movies rich people

Let’s start with a film from 2007. There Will Be Blood is on Netflix and is about two quintessentially cinematic portraits of American-style greed. Citizen Kane tells the story of a character whose growth in wealth comes with the loss of his soul, while Daniel Plainview (Daniel Day-Lewis) from There Will Be Blood is something else: a man who never had a soul to lose. Paul Thomas Anderson’s masterpiece is one of the darkest and most chillingly cynical portraits of greed ever made.

The next movie is an old one, a classic. The movie is called The Treasure of the Sierra Madre from 1948. Bogart once described his Sierra Madre character as “…the worst shit you’ve ever seen”, and he wasn’t wrong. He begins the film by nearly beating his boss to death, and ends with a murder. In between, the iconic Fred C. Dobbs ventures into his own heart of darkness in search of the titular fortune, realizing that he is capable of far worse deeds than he ever imagined.

The last in this top three is, of course, Wall Street. The film cannot and should not be missed. Gordon Gekko played by Michael Douglas is an exciting, but ultimately monotonous villain. To anyone paying attention, there’s little surprising about the character, and the movie’s morality (hard work and honesty versus quick wit) is overly simple. Nevertheless, the film was a success. This is due to the rapid pull of the decade. We still recognize (and use) the iconic expression “greed is good”. The Wolf of Wall Street is also a similar film.
