Tonight all eyes are on Cupertino. At 19:00 Dutch time, Apple will make several product unveilings, including the new iPhone 14 (Pro). These are the products you can expect tonight.

Read on after the ad.

iPhone 14 event September 7, 2022

So the annual ritual of iPhone unveilings takes place tonight. This time we have arrived at the iPhone 14 series, which is rumored to change a lot more spectacularly than last year’s iPhone 13. This is especially true for the advanced Pro models.

Apple’s September event is now also the time when the company presents its latest Apple Watch. This year there are even three. There are also more revelations to come. These are our expectations of the iPhone 14 event.

1. iPhone 14 Pro (Max)

The star of the show will be the iPhone 14 Pro (Max). The new flagship from Apple gets big new features, including a 48-megapixel camera. It is the first iPhone that can shoot photos at this resolution; until now, the iPhone didn’t go beyond 12 megapixel photos. The iPhone 14 Pro models are also capable of recording video in 8K.

The design is also nicer, because the notch around the selfie camera disappears. It will be replaced by an oval bar, in which, in addition to the camera, the technology for Face ID is also integrated. In addition, the iPhone 14 Pro will probably receive support for always-on, with the screen also showing information in sleep mode, such as the time and widgets.

2. iPhone 14 (Plus)

Lovers of a compact iPhone should not count on an iPhone 14 mini. The 5.4-inch model will disappear, and will be replaced by a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus. It is therefore the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The ‘regular’ iPhone 14 has a screen diagonal of 6.1 inches; just like the regular iPhone 13 has.

Less is known about the cheaper iPhone 14 (Plus). The camera lenses are again getting bigger and better, but a 48-megapixel camera is probably not coming. The design also seems to be almost identical to the iPhone 13 (mini) from last year. Fortunately, we will hear more about the new features tonight.

3. Apple Watch Series 8

Little has been done to the design of the Apple Watch in recent years, but the Apple Watch Series 8 seems to be getting a slightly different look. Rumors point to Watch with a flatter screen. Also new is that the smartwatch will have an extra sensor, which measures the body temperature.

4. Apple Watch Pro

Apple Watch Pro

Apple is coming with a completely new Apple Watch model, which may be called the Apple Watch Pro. The smartwatch has the same functionalities as the Series 8, but the design is a lot bigger and more robust. With this, Apple seems to be targeting a specific target group with the Watch: practitioners of extreme sports.

5. Apple Watch SE

The entry-level version of the Apple Watch is being refreshed: the Apple Watch SE 2022. The design will probably remain broadly the same as with the previous SE. The main improvement is that this watch will have an always-on screen, as we already know from the Apple Watch Series 5 and newer. With this, the screen with the time is always on, even if you keep your wrist down.

6. AirPods Pro 2

Finally it comes: a new version of the AirPods Pro. The first saw its light on October 30, 2019, so it was time for a new version. According to the latest rumors, the earbuds will receive an updated H2 chip for better sound quality and the AirPods Pro will last longer on a battery charge.

Also new are the built-in motion sensors and the more compact design. Probably the AirPods Pro 2 no longer have stems, just like the Beats Studio Buds.

7. iOS 16 release date

iOS 16 features

Tonight we will probably hear the release date of iOS 16. The new iPhone operating system was already announced in June and has been tested in recent months. Typically, the release of the new operating system is about a week after the iPhone event. We may be able to install iOS 16 on the iPhone as early as next week.
