Tinder goes on Blind Date
Blind Date is a new feature in the Tinder app that links members together before they can view each other’s profiles. Thus conversations, rather than photos, are the first impression. Members will not be able to view each other’s profiles until they have decided to match as a result of the chat conversation.
According to Tinder, Blind Date is inspired by the old-fashioned way of meeting someone new: “Blind Date gives members an accessible way to put their personality first.” A survey conducted by Tinder among 1,000 Gen Z members in several countries reveals that Gen Z’s desire is to go back to the 90s nostalgia, when blind dating was hot. About 60% of Dutch respondents aged 18-24 have been on a blind date, or would consider going on a blind date.
This is how Blind Date works in Tinder
Blind Date can be found in Explore, the interactive space on Tinder. To use the new feature, Tinder members first answer a short series of ice-breaking questions. Then they are linked together based on the similarities that follow. Then the timer chat starts and the only details they know about the person on the other side of the screen are their answers to multiple choice questions such as: “It’s OK to wear a shirt ____ times without washing it” and “I do ketchup on____.” When the timer runs out, they can like the other person’s profile, which will be revealed if there is a match, or they can choose to be matched with a new person
Blind Date is available in the Netherlands from today. Would you like to give it a try? Check in on Tinder now and let us know what you think in the comments.
