Tim Cook touts partnership with Sony for iPhone photo sensors
Tim Cook (and more generally Apple’s com service) is not used to boasting about the many partnerships with Apple suppliers, probably because this “recall” would undermine the narrative of a company that would design everything from end to end of the chain. For once, however, the boss of Apple made a (big) exception. Tim Cook is indeed currently visiting a Sony site located in Kumamoto, a site intended for R&D on mobile photo sensors.
We’ve been partnering with Sony for over a decade to create the world’s leading camera sensors for iPhone. Thanks to Ken and everyone on the team for showing me around the cutting-edge facility in Kumamoto today. pic.twitter.com/462SEkUbhi

“We’ve partnered with Sony for over a decade to create the world’s best camera sensors for iPhone” said Tim Cook in a tweet. “Thank you to Ken and everyone on the team for showing me around the state-of-the-art Kumamoto facility today.” As a reminder, Apple has been using Sony sensors for 3 generations of iPhone and should continue to do so on future models, especially for the main sensors which require more sensitive progress in low light. Sony already occupies more than half of the market for mobile photo components.
