For example, we’ll show you how to turn on Spatial audio on your AirPods and tell you how to find out the name of a song even faster.

1. Full screen display when receiving a call

You sometimes hear ‘everything was better in the past’. That’s not always true, but sometimes it was more convenient. For example, a number of iOS versions back, you always got to see full screen when someone called you (on an unlocked iPhone).

Nowadays you only see a small sliver when someone tries to reach you while you are on your smartphone. As a result, it can sometimes happen that you miss an important phone call, because those strips are actually quite small (or you wipe them away too quickly out of habit).

Sometimes it is therefore smart to (temporarily) change the old look of the full-screen display if you expect an important phone call. You do this in the following way.

  • Tap on ‘Settings’;
  • Scroll down and tap ‘FaceTime’;
  • Tap ‘Incoming’;
  • Choose ‘Full screen’.

Do you want to go back to the strips when someone calls you? Then choose the ‘Strip’ option.

2. Turn on Spatial Audio on AirPods

Do you have a set of AirPods? They sound pretty good, right? Did you know they also support Spatial Audio? That is, if you have the AirPods Pro, AirPods 3, or AirPods Max (oh yes, and the Beats Fit Pro). However, the function is not (always) enabled by default. So follow the steps below to enable it.

Turn on Spatial audio on AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and Beats Fit Pro

  1. Connect your AirPods or your Beats to your iPhone;
  2. Open Control Center by swiping down in the top right corner (on an iPhone with a Home button, swipe down from bottom to top);
  3. Press and hold your finger on the volume bar of the AirPods or Beats;
  4. Tap the blue dot at the bottom and choose ‘Fixed’ or ‘Main tracked’.

You will now hear that the sound sounds more ‘three-dimensional’ or spatial. Have you set the AirPods to ‘Head Tracked’? Then you will continue to hear the sound of your iPhone from a certain point, even when you turn your head. Don’t like spatial audio at all? Then choose ‘Off’ to switch off the function completely.

3. Recognize music from the control panel

You are probably familiar with the Shazam app. If not: it is a program with which you can recognize music. Do you hear a nice song during a movie? Start the app and you will (often very quickly) see which song it is.

iPhone tips Shazam control panel

Only, you have to be quick. Because often the song is already gone before you start Shazam. To start the app as quickly as possible, you can place it in the control panel. The control panel can always be opened very quickly. And the nice thing is? If you also have an Apple Watch, you can see which song it is on it.

  • Go to ‘Settings > Control panel’;
  • Scroll down and tap the green plus for ‘Music Recognition’;
  • Open Control Center (on an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top right corner. Do you have another Home button? Then swipe up from the bottom to open Control Center);
  • Tap the Shazam icon and wait a moment;
  • Shazam will notify you which song was playing.
