This is how Sygic will help you avoid accidents while driving

In many European countries, an emergency lane is mandatory and although you will hopefully rarely or never have to deal with it, it is useful to be aware of it when you use it and what to do if emergency services have to pass in a place where may not be an emergency lane. Navigation app Sygic has now added a special alert called Rescue Lane.

You will be informed of possible accidents and receive clear information when a critical situation arises. Sygic can navigate you well to stand well so that the emergency services can pass. You will receive clear information about how to drive in order to avoid confusion and new accidents.

On a two-lane road, it is often obvious where a vehicle should turn, but on multi-lane roads, there can sometimes be some confusion. Lukas Dermek, Head of Product at Sygic, explains the findings of their driver focus group: “We found that the majority of drivers are not familiar with the rescue lane rule, so incorporating educational information was key to making an impact with the warning.”

Not every Sygic user has access to this extra security option, but you do need a Premium+ subscription. If traffic slows down to a certain speed, you will be warned that there may be an accident and how best to pass the vehicle. “Vehicles in the left lane should move as far to the left as possible, while vehicles in the right lane should move as far to the right as possible. On multi-lane roads, such as dual carriageways and highways, vehicles in the left lane must turn left, while all other lanes must turn right. It is crucial to keep the hard shoulder clear in these situations.”

In countries such as Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland and Switzerland, a rescue lane is mandatory.
