1. Silence unknown callers

Secretly it is no longer allowed: from 1 July 2021, companies may only call consumers with a commercial offer who have agreed in advance (or have recently been a customer). Yet it still happens far too often that you are harassed by unknown numbers with an ‘interesting offer’ in a roundabout way.

Fortunately, you can also do something about it yourself. It is very easy to keep unknown numbers silent. You can read how to do that below.

Silence unknown callers on iPhone

  1. Tap ‘Settings’, scroll down and tap ‘Phone’;
  2. Scroll down and tap on ‘Hush unknown callers’;
  3. Set the slider next to ‘Keep unknown callers silent’ to on.

All calls from unknown numbers are now silenced and sent to voicemail. By the way, you can still see that you have been called by opening the phone app and tapping ‘Recent’.

2. iPhone Tips to Use Siri Without Talking

You may know it: you are at a busy station or an airport and Siri does not respond because of all the noise. You can find a quiet spot, but there is an easier way to use Siri. You can also type Siri questions and you can set that up in the following way.

  • Tap ‘Settings’, scroll down and tap ‘Accessibility’;
  • Scroll down and under General, tap Siri;
  • Turn on the slider at ‘Type questions to Siri’.

Now you can briefly press the side button on your iPhone to type questions to Siri instead of saying it.

3. Give an app a different icon (with Commands)

You can do a lot with the Assignments app, but did you know that you can also use the program to customize the icon of an app? Well, sort of. You create a new shortcut to the desired app with your own icon. This way you can change the look of your iPhone even more to your liking. You can then remove the original app from your home screen, because all apps are in the App library anyway.

  • Open the ‘Assignments’ app;
  • Tap ‘My assignments’ at the bottom and tap the plus sign at the top right;
  • Give the assignment a name and tap ‘Add task’;
  • Search for ‘Open app’ and tap ‘Open app’ under scripting;
  • Tap the blue text ‘app’ and choose the app to open;
  • At the bottom, tap the share icon (square with the arrow) and choose ‘Add to home screen’;
  • Tap the picture under ‘Home screen name and symbol’ and go to ‘Choose photo’;
  • Select the photo you want to use as the icon for the app and tap Choose > Add.
