After 7 years of preparation, Thomas Pesquet has become the youngest European astronaut. In July 2020, Thomas Pesquet is selected for a second mission aboard the capsule Crew Dragonbuilt by the American company SpaceX. He thus becomes the first European assigned to a mission aboard the Crew Dragon, a mission he decides to baptize Alpha.
On April 23, 2021, Thomas Pesquet embarked for the second time to the International Space Station. On October 4, 2021, he became the first Frenchman to command the ISS. It returns to earth on November 8, 2021, after 200 days in orbit. During this mission, he carried out 134 experiments and 4 extravehicular outings.
Thomas Pesquet is, since 2021, the most experienced European astronaut (with nearly 400 days in space), as well as the most experienced in extravehicular outings.
