Start your working day
The Dutch-language Google Assistant has only been available since July 2020, and many useful functions for the smart assistant have already been rolled out since then. One of these is the ‘workday’ routine, which is made especially for home workers. She should help you stay productive throughout the day. The workday routine reminds you of all kinds of things, from keeping the appointments in your agenda to taking a break and drinking a glass of water. All you need is a smart speaker and a phone with the Google Assistant.
So what are routines?
The Google Assistant can perform useful tasks via a voice command, also with your smart devices. For example, you can switch smart lights on or off or request the weather forecast. Routines ensure that you can trigger multiple actions from Google with a self-chosen assignment or question.
There are standard routines that you can activate for typical daily scenarios, such as getting up or going to sleep, but you can also develop your own commands. If you want to include your own smart home devices in those routines, it is a requirement that the devices in question have been added to the Google Home app.
Activate workday routine
To use the workday routine, you must first activate it. This can be done in two ways.
Via the Google Home app
- Open the Google Home app
- Tap at the top routines
- Scroll down and choose Business day
Through the Google Assistant
- Swipe from bottom left or right corner to center
- Tap it bottom left icon to open your personal overview
- Tap it profile icon from your Google account at the top right and then click Institutions
- Scroll down and choose routines
- Swipe under suggestions to the left to the workday routine
You can now first turn on the workday routine via the switch at the top. Then choose the time zone and days on which you work in the step below. You can immediately indicate whether you want to receive a notification when the routine starts. Then you start setting up the tasks for the workday routine.
There are 6 times where you can hang actions. You can adjust these times to your working day. For example, you can adjust the time, delete the pre-filled actions, add new actions and link a smart speaker of your choice to the time. For example, the routine starts in my bedroom at 7:50 am on the Lenovo Smart Clock with the time, the weather forecast, and an overview of my schedule and reminders for the day. The assistant then wishes me a nice working day.
Around 10 am I get to hear the voice of the smart assistant again with the time with the commands below. At 12:00 it is then time for lunch and then for a walk.
You can set the rest of the working day according to your own wishes with times and actions.
