Heat pumps are currently the focus, because gas and oil heating systems will be banned in Germany from 2024. If you then need a new heating system, you have to switch to a climate-friendly alternative. There are two things that you have to consider when buying a heat pump in order not to suffer any financial damage.

Installing a heat pump: avoid expensive mistakes

Since conventional gas and oil heating will be banned in Germany from 2024, many homeowners will have to switch to a heat pump in order to be able to heat in a climate-friendly manner. If you want to buy such a heat pump, you have to consider two things that could otherwise cost you dearly.

  • Carry out heat load calculation: In contrast to gas and oil heating, a heat pump must be very precisely adapted to the energy requirements of the house. To do this, a heating load calculation must be carried out. In this way, it is determined what output the heat pump has to provide in order to generate the required heat output. If that doesn’t happen and you install a heat pump that is too big or too small, then it will say goodbye at an early stage. After just a few years, the compressor can break down due to too many switching operations. That corresponds to a total failure. If everything is calculated correctly, a heat pump will last around 25 years.
  • PFAS ban: Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are still used in many heat pumps. It is an eternity chemical that can never be broken down. If the heat pump leaks, then this substance is poisonous and is suspected of causing cancer. The EU is therefore planning to ban PFAS in heat pumps. So if you want to install a heat pump now, you should definitely choose a model that does not use PFAS so that you don’t have to replace it later at great expense if it is banned.

You can save energy costs with a balcony power plant:

Heat pump only with energy consultant

If you are considering purchasing a heat pump to replace a gas or oil heater, then you should consult an energy consultant. This will determine the energy needs of your home and guide you through the whole process. That’s the only way you’ll get government support, which will save you thousands of euros.
