Here’s what’s new in iOS 17’s camera app
Apple gave you a first impression of iOS 17 during WWDC 2023. During this presentation, it was mainly about the new functions such as Standby and more. Apple did not say anything about the camera app, but there are also a number of things different in iOS 17.
No more crooked photos with the new horizon function
If you have ever used the grid in the camera app, you know that it is a handy way to shoot a (reasonably) straight photo. Your screen is then divided into nine areas that you can use for your composition and to keep your camera straight. Apple will soon add something to that in iOS 17.
You will then see an extra line in the iOS 17 camera app (Apple calls this function Level). This allows you to see even better how well you hold the camera horizontally or vertically. This line represents the horizon, as it were, which you can then use.
By the way, you don’t have to use the grid to get the new feature. You can turn the Level line on or off separately. Are you already using the grid? Then the option is enabled by default in iOS 17. Don’t you use the grid? Then the option is off at Level.
To enable the option, go to ‘Settings’ and scroll down. Then tap on ‘Camera’. Under ‘Composition’ you will find the new options. Turn on the slider behind ‘Level’ here.
More new features in iOS 17
The update to iOS 17 is packed with cool features. For example, the Phone, FaceTime and Messages apps have been significantly updated. The Standby function is also very nice. Furthermore, AirDrop has a new function with NameDrop, Safari is getting a major update, the Health app has new functions and Apple Music contains shared playlists.
