Android

this is what you need to know about it

All features of Google Meet will be incorporated into the Duo app in the coming weeks. In addition, the name Duo will disappear later this year and the app will also be called ‘Meet’, Google reveals. All your Duo contacts, video call history and messages can be found in the new Google Meet.

Google Duo will merge into Google Meet

Both Google Meet and Google Duo have received a lot of updates lately. Duo was given the opportunity for group conversations, doodles and other fun effects. Google Meet has recently received more than 100 new features such as subtitles and virtual backgrounds. Because the two services have an enormous overlap in functionalities, Google has announced in a blog post that it will also integrate all the possibilities of Google Meet in the Google Duo. With this, Google wants to create a single service for both video conferencing and video calling.

In the coming weeks, these functionalities will be integrated into the Google Duo app. After the update, in addition to the standard video calls with family and friends, you can also set up and schedule a video meeting from the same app. Later this year, the Google Duo app will be rebranded as “Google Meet,” leaving a single video service free for anyone to use.

Starting a video call in the new Duo, soon to be called ‘Meet’

Google emphasizes that current Duo functions will remain as normal and that users will not have to download a new app. All contacts, messages and call history will also be preserved and you will be able to set up a group conversation with more people with Google Duo. The limit evolves from 21 to 100 participants. In addition, the integration into Gmail, Calendar and similar services is also a new addition.

Answer to Facetime?

One of the first thoughts that comes to mind is its resemblance to Apple Facetime. A service that can also be used via all platforms. Will we soon be able to record personal video calls on the desktop, as is also possible with Apple Facetime?

Google is a company that does not always stick to its services. Often there are several similar apps coexisting that do about the same thing. For example, look at Hangouts, Allo, and Google Messages that have coexisted for a long time. Or take Android TV and Google TV. The same situation was also present with Google Meet and Google Duo. Last month with Google I/O it was a bit different, because then Google revived an old service with Wallet. What do you think about the disappearance of Duo? Let us know below the article.
