This is the Spotify widget in new Android Auto interface

We get to see how the Spotify widget will work with Android Auto’s new interface, better known as ‘Coolwalk’. We see that there are many more operating options than with the current media player that is in the taskbar of Android Auto.

The screens of in-car Infotainment systems today come in all shapes and sizes. It is therefore very logical that Google adapts the interface of Android Auto with a split-screen display, so that screen space is used better.

Reddit user ‘u/mynamesjefffffs’ has already been able to activate Android Auto’s upcoming Coolwalk interface on his phone after rooting his phone. That is why we now see for the first time what the Spotify widget will look like when it is next to Google Maps.

We note a relatively large media player with the album cover design in the background of each track. New is that you can see a timeline, and there is also a second page in this widget. It lets you shuffle songs in the playlist you’re listening to in one fell swoop, and there are also recommended playlists if you fancy something different. You may also notice rounded corners in the interface, which is typical of Coolwalk. Finally, on the right there is a vertical taskbar with a button for the Google Assistant, a recent app and an app drawer.

Today it is already possible on certain infotainment systems to use multiple apps side by side in Android Auto, but that only works with the larger ultrawide panels. In the Reddit user’s example, we see a relatively small infotainment system with a split-screen display. It is unknown when the Coolwalk update will be rolled out to users. Google first talked about an update during the summer, but the company did not meet that deadline.
