This is the new Ikea facility for gamers
From chairs to cup holders: Together with a gaming brand, Ikea furniture has been created that could also appeal to non-gamers. The designers speak of cyberpunk.
“We’re just scratching the surface of where that could lead,” says Jon Karlsson, chief designer of the new Ikea gaming series, which was created in collaboration with the gaming brand ROG (Republic of Gamers) from computer manufacturer Asus. It includes chairs and desks, but also accessories from neck pillows to ring lights. The total almost 30 new products go on sale on October 1st.
While ROG was responsible for futuristic shapes and patterns in many places, Ikea brought in the in-house style. The result is furniture that you can see from both parents and that fits well into the portfolio of the market leader furniture store. Karlsson emphasizes that the chairs are adapted to the long lifespan of gamers. The tables can also be set up at different heights. The top model Uppspel even allows electrical adjustment.
The control panel can be attached to different places and also charges smartphones. In addition, they made use of the workshop area: Users can attach accessories and gadgets to the perforated sheet metal board using magnets, hooks or straps. Matching cupboard and lighting elements complete the range. As Karlsson indicated, Ikea apparently wants to test the series first in order to realize further long-term plans.
Clever solutions – also for non-gamers – can also be found in the accessories. The multi-purpose pillow from the Lånespelare series, for example, is a hybrid of a blanket, divider and pillow and offers compartments for cold hands. The ring light and mobile phone holder on flexible arms as well as a cup holder and a cable guide come from the same series. Mousepads and floor mats with imprint in CAD style complete the range.
