What to do if your Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20 + is unable to make or receive calls

We will list potential solutions below, so try them one by one. All are simple and don’t need lots of effort.

  • Make sure the Airplane mode is turned off. When this mode is enabled, you can’t make or receive calls, use the internet, or send texts. The airplane icon will show up at the top of the screen. To make sure the feature is disabled, open the Quick Settings and check it out from there.
  • Forced restart is the next thing to try. We suggest it as a solution for various issues because it can quickly fix minor firmware bugs. To force restart your phone, press and hold the Volume button and the Power button at the same time for about 10 seconds, and the phone will power off. The phone will turn on in a couple of seconds.
  • Remove the SIM card. Make sure the card is not damaged. If it is, you will have to contact your carrier and ask for a replacement. One of the reasons why the device isn’t able to place or receive calls could be that the card was not correctly positioned. When putting it back in its place, make sure to do it right.
  • Reset network settings – When an issue like this occurs, one of the options you have is to reset network settings. It can fix the problem, but keep in mind you will have to pair your phone with other Bluetooth devices all over again, add a Wi-Fi password, and adjust other network-related settings. Go to Settings> General Management> Reset> Reset network settings, tap Reset settings.
  • Reset settings – If the previous step didn’t make a difference, you might try this one. As the name suggests, you will reset all settings on the phone back to factory defaults. The process is simple. Here is what you need to do. Go to Settings> General Management> Reset> Reset settings and tap Reset settings.
  • Factory reset – If all things fail, you may try performing a factory data reset, but make sure to create the backup first. The steps for factory data reset are as follows: go to Settings> General management> Reset> Factory Data Reset> Reset. You will have to wait for the process to finish. When it does, follow the on-screen guidance to set up the phone as a new device.

If you tried all these workarounds and still can’t make or receive calls, visit your carrier first, and then Samsung Service Center if required.
