Deutsche Bahn has two tracks: in addition to the Ap DB Navigator and the online booking system at bahn.de, the transport company now also offers the so-called Next DB Navigator. You can also reach the DB in the browser in addition to the previous homepage at next.bahn.de. Behind that is the Preparation for the end of the old systems.
In the first quarter of 2024, Deutsche Bahn will probably replace the old homepage and the previous app with their successors with the suffix “Next”. But what does that change for Deutsche Bahn customers? You can currently use both systems in parallel. You can buy tickets using the previous DB Navigator as well as in the new Next DB Navigator app. However, the tickets cannot be transferred from one system to another because separate accounting systems work in the background.
Benefits of the new application should include a Easier operation and clearer design be. Instead of using the side menu as before, you navigate in the next navigator using the streamlined menu bar at the bottom. The three items “Book”, “Travel” and “Profile” are available here.
The information on trips already booked is also said to have been refined. There it should, among other things, real-time information such as for Cancellation of the train connection, alternative travel routes in the event of cancellations or the carriage sequence give (source: dpa via Southgerman newspaper). As a result of the rail renovation over the next few years, for which DB warns of severe restrictions at an early stage, this real-time information in particular should be worth its weight in gold for travelers in the future – provided it is then reliable.
Not only digital things are changing at DB:
Hidden beta? Deutsche Bahn still has a lot to do
Also new is the option of saving favorites – practical for commuters, for example. The seat reservation in the new app should also be more user-friendly. but not all functions that you find in the navigator are already created in the next navigator. The DB advises to switch back to the old app if important functions are missing. Additional features are to go live in the coming months and will make the new app a real replacement by the time it is replaced in 2024.
