this is how you disable the Google Assistant on Android

Do you ever use the Google Assistant, or would you rather not use such smart services because of privacy concerns? Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to use the digital assistants or not. The disadvantage for those who prefer not to use the Assistant is that you have to disable it yourself. How does that work? In this article we explain it exactly to you.

Google Assistant

Since its introduction in 2016, the Assistant has taken an increasingly prominent position within the Android ecosystem. In the early years, the Assistant still had to be activated independently; that is no longer necessary, according to a recent presentation by Google about its new password manager in Chrome. If a weak password is detected, the Assistant will automatically switch on to notify the user. On the one hand, that is very nice and can be seen as the ‘progress of technology’.

On the other hand, the Assistant also starts to appear more and more prominently without a user having asked for it. It is also questionable whether that is a desired course; if it is extremely important to you that your privacy is strictly guarded, you would rather not have Google search your data on a daily basis. In addition to any privacy objections, the Assistant sometimes also causes irritation in other areas: for example, the Assistant activates too often unsolicited, or Google works with the manufacturer of your phone to link the activation of the Google Assistant to your on/off button.

Whatever reason you have for wanting to disable the Assistant, it’s good to know that you can do this at any time via the settings of the digital assistant. We explain how this works in the steps below.

Disable the Assistant

Disabling the Assistant must be done per device; It’s not possible to turn off Google’s digital assistant on all your devices with one click. Below we explain how to disable the Google Assistant on an Android phone.

  5. Swipe down until you General encounters
  6. click on General to open the settings
  7. Put the switch out behind Google Assistant
  8. click on Switch off on the pop-up that appears

The steps above work, as indicated, on Android phones. To disable the Assistant function on Google’s smart speakers, simply set the microphone function to mute. Note that he will remain connected to the Assistant, but it will then no longer be possible to activate him (accidentally) and he will then no longer be able to listen to sounds in your environment.
