Tesla models are among the most popular e-cars worldwide – last year the Model 3 was ahead with 3697 registrations and a wide margin. Interested parties can find out for themselves whether the hype surrounding the American manufacturer under the leadership of Elon Musk is justified by taking a test drive. Is a Tesla test drive free?
While the coveted Tesla Model 3s cost over €40,000, a test drive is all you need free of charge from that. The only requirement is that you are over 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license. You must take both forms of proof with you to the appointment. Arranging an appointment is just as easy as making the purchase, because the process is complete on-line on the Tesla website away.
After you have decided on the Model Y or the Model 3, the following data is required for the test drive:
- full first and last name
- E-mail address
- zip code and country
- phone number
Otherwise there is nothing left but to send the request, because now it’s time to wait. A Tesla employee will then contact you and ask you to confirm the appointment. You will then receive a booking confirmation with further information and details. It is advisable to show up 10 minutes before the actual appointment – after all, the Stromer are in demand.

Rent a Tesla: When the test drive is too short
If the 30-minute test drive in the cockpit of the electric car is not enough for you, you can rent a Tesla for a short time. However, this is no longer free and also not very cheap: For 24 hours with a Model Y you pay Elon Musk around 120 €. However, the prices vary depending on the location, model and period. Again, a valid driver’s license and proof of age are mandatory.
Renting is ideal for those who are undecided with the necessary change and are thinking of buying it, or as a very special birthday present for the Stromer fan in the family.
