this is how the streaming service will check you for account sharing

When you share your account on Netflix now, not much is going on. But this is going to change. The streaming service will use various means to prevent people from sharing their account. Now the company will let you know how it will check this.

Netflix will check sharer’s account

The message has been circulating for some time that Netflix wants to tackle account sharing. If you share your Netflix account with others outside your own household, you may soon receive a message about this from the streaming service. In some countries, a test has already been done with paying extra for those who share their account, and Netflix has also previously released Profile Transfer, which allows a profile within an account to be transferred completely to a new account.

Netflix has now announced how users who share their accounts will be monitored. Various issues will be looked at; including the IP address, device ID and user activities. For example, it can be detected whether someone within the same household (via the same WiFi connection, for example) is watching, or whether this is not the case. When a profile is frequently viewed from a different location, the administrator of the account used to create the account will receive an email or text message. This allows the owner to verify the respective device on which Netflix is being used. A code is shown that must be entered within 15 minutes. The verification can be repeated periodically, the company says.

Another measure that Netflix is taking is blocking access. This may be the case when a device fails to stream content over the account administrator’s WiFi network within 31 days. In that case, the account manager will receive another email with the option to pay extra monthly in order to give the device access to the streaming service under that account again. Netflix emphasizes that it will not charge unexpected costs.
