This is how much the electric car costs in other countries

The Tesla Model Y is one of the best-selling cars in the world. However, buyers do not pay the same price for the e-car everywhere. An overview.

The Tesla Model Y could make the top five best-selling vehicles of the year list by the end of 2022. The US electric car manufacturer sold more than 500,000 units worldwide in the first nine months of 2022.

There seems to be great international interest. But not all buyers pay the same price. While people in China can get a real bargain when buying a Tesla Model Y, in Singapore the electric car costs about the same as a condominium.

Tesla Model Y has different prices around the world

Like the news agency Bloomberg summarized, interested parties on the Chinese mainland can get the Model Y for the equivalent of 40,500 US dollars. That’s only about half the US retail price.

Buyers in Singapore have to pay the equivalent of 103,800 US dollars. Excise and registration taxes are not included in the total price, which could double again.

Reason for different cost

The fact that the same Model Y costs different amounts in different countries is due to the fact that Singapore or Israel, for example, charge higher taxes, customs duties and registration fees.

In countries like China or in Europe, the costs are therefore much lower. In addition, supply and demand and the extent of competition also determine the price in the respective country.

Austria is in 18th place with a retail price of US$60,148. The model in Switzerland is cheaper. The country is ranked 20th at US$58,029.

Tesla prices could fall overall

According to experts, commodity prices could fall in 2023 due to the weakening economic situation. Then the input costs would also decrease.

If that’s the case, it’s entirely possible that Tesla and most other automakers will lower their prices to stimulate demand. Tesla CEO Elon Musk also has them possibility already promised in the past.
