‘This is how Google Pixel Fold folds’

A video has appeared of how Google Pixel Fold folds. Pixel’s first foldable device appears to fold together quite smoothly, according to an official video that appears to be real. Kuba Wojciechowski posted the video on Twitter.

When you make a foldable phone, everyone wants to know only one thing: what does it look like? And secondly of course: is it really sturdy? Now that second question has already been answered by many phone makers: yes, it is certainly sturdy, but every phone has a different way of folding. Flexible or somewhat stiffer, the type of hinge used, whether the fold is on the short or the long side of the phone: there are many options.

Curious how that works with Pixel Fold? In the video below you can see how its folding action works. We see that there is probably a larger screen than on Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, but that it does have fairly large bezels. This has the advantage that it can accommodate a selfie camera without having a bite out of your screen: just like in the old days on smartphones.

It is also noticeable that there is a clear fold. Even if you have unfolded the screen, you will continue to see it. Now several foldable phones have it, but it is quite clearly visible here. In addition, we also see that the outer screen of the device is quite large. In addition, there is a fingerprint scanner on the side, along with the volume buttons. If you look closely, you can even see the unique camera arrangement, which will be different from what we know from the Pixel 7, although it is a camera in a ‘bar’ arrangement.

For example, the Fold would have a 48-megapixel main camera (f/1.7) with OIS and an 82-degree field of view. In addition, a 10.8 megapixel wide-angle lens would shine (with a 12.1 degree field of view) and another 10.8 megapixel zoom lens (5x optical zoom and 20x Super Res Zoom). The aforementioned selfie camera would be 9.5 megapixels with an 84-degree field of view, with an 8 megapixel camera on the inside for video meetings.

Pixel Fold appears to be released on June 27 (and cost around 2,000 euros). These are all just rumors, of course, we won’t know for sure until Google announces it (which it will probably do at I/O on May 12).
