Apple released iOS 14.6 and iPadOS. The new OS versions include support for podcast subscriptions and more. MacOS and watchOS have also received updates.

A few days after the announcement of the lossless and spatial audio functions for Apple Music, the manufacturer is delivering corresponding updates. This means that the in-house devices should be ready for the start of the offer in June. However, Apple’s Airpods headphones do not support the new functions. The Homepods will support lossless music in a later update. What else do the updates for iPhones and iPads have to offer?

Another major innovation for iPhones and iPads is support for the announced subscription function of the podcast app. In the future, you can subscribe to channels with multiple podcasts or individual podcasts for a fee. Billing takes place via in-app purchase. Purchased podcasts can be ad-free or receive bonus material.

Apple is improving its Podcasts app with new functions: All episodes can be marked as played, old episodes restored and downloads removed. The functions are also available for macOS with version 11.4 and watchOS 7.5 for Macs or Apple Watches.

The updates also contain new functions for “Apple Card Family”, which are not relevant in Europe.

As usual, the OS updates contain some bug fixes and security improvements. Among other things, Apple has fixed an issue where the “Unlock with Apple Watch” function does not work correctly. Problems with the “Reminders” app, where blank lines are displayed, have also been resolved.

Furthermore, call barring extensions should appear reliably in the settings again and Apple has eliminated problems with calls with the Bluetooth connection. A possible reduced performance when starting the iPhone should no longer occur.

The next big updates are not far off: iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 will be unveiled on June 7th during the big developer conference WWDC 2021. Traditionally, the final approval does not take place until autumn.
