This is how Google comes to the battery life of Pixel Watch

24 hours of battery, that’s what Google promises for Pixel Watch. Google has now laid out how it arrives at that 24-hour maximum, so you’ll have a better idea of what to expect from this new wearable.

Maximum battery life

At launch, Google only stated that “maximum battery life is approximate and based on testing with pre-production hardware and software.” It is also not easy to say something about the battery life: that is difficult with a phone, because it depends on whether you constantly watch YouTube and swipe on TikTok, or whether you barely touch your device and read a WhatsApp message on it sporadically. .

The same goes for wearables. If you have linked your smart watch to WhatsApp and it goes on all day in one of your group conversations with all kinds of pictures and gifs, then your watch that has to light up every time will run a lot faster in terms of battery life. In the meantime, Google has decided to give a little more context to how it comes to those 24 hours, because there is a good chance that you will not make it.

Google Pixel Watch

Google’s help article on charging and improving the battery life of the Google Pixel Watch explains what such a 24-hour battery life means:

  • 240 notifications
  • 280 time controls
  • A 5 minute LTE phone call
  • 45 minutes of LTE and GPS training with downloaded YouTube music playing
  • 50 minutes of navigation (Google maps) while Bluetooth is connected to a phone

This is assuming the watch uses its default settings, including a disabled Always-on screen. You can also get 24 hours with the Always-on screen on, but then you can, for example, write that navigation and the training on your stomach.

smart watch

It is not uncommon for a manufacturer to specify what you can expect from that battery life. Apple has been doing that for a while: its “all day” battery life is based on: 90 time checks, 90 notifications, 45 minutes of app use, and a 60-minute workout with music playback from Apple Watch via Bluetooth. In addition, the smart watch constantly connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth.

As far as we are concerned, manufacturers should be allowed to do this more often, perhaps also for telephones. After all, such a battery life does not really mean anything without this important additional information. It sometimes seems that the battery life is based on just having the gadget on, but that is not the case.

What do you think of the Pixel Watch’s battery life? Is it acceptable? Leave it in the comments.
