this is all about your little one’s head
Your baby’s brain is working overtime, according to a long-term study by the University of Utrecht. For example, little ones can already put themselves in another place and they already have a working memory.
About three thousand babies took part in the Utrecht study. The babies were already examined during pregnancy and also after birth they regularly visited the hospital for examinations.

Among other things, the research showed that babies can move into another person from 6 months old. Professor of biological developmental psychology Chantal Kemner explains this to de Volkskrant: “We study in detail how children develop social skills and self-control, while taking a close look at brain development. Nowhere in the world is something like this done.”
The babies were given two transparent plastic containers in front of their noses during the study. In the left was a cuddly toy, in the right a ball. The babies saw an adult’s arm grab the bear every time. Until the line-up was changed. “When the researcher picked up the ball, the babies looked at it longer than when the researcher picked up the bear. That was unexpected. The arm, in the babies’ eyes, was purposefully looking for the bear, regardless of its location. This shows that babies can infer another person’s purpose from their behavior and thus can put themselves in another’s shoes.”
