This dystopian horror thriller brought a breath of fresh air to the genre

The “The Purge” series is a dystopia as it is written in books and fortunately only reality in the films. What happens in The Purge?
The annual cleanup, introduced by the country’s governing NFFA party to curb the crime rate, begins at 7 p.m. sharp. All crimes, including murder, are allowed for twelve hours. The rescue and security forces who are otherwise available only return to work the next day, after the clean-up is complete. The wealthy Sandin family has numerous security systems in place to stay safe through the night. But what do you do when an injured stranger knocks on your door and asks for help? Do you let him die in or out? Not wanting to be responsible for someone’s death, the Sandins’ son opens the security systems and lets the stranger in. From then on, the night no longer runs like all other nights.

Is The Purge worth turning on?
As mentioned at the beginning, director and screenwriter James DeMonaco has achieved a real stroke of genius not only with the first, but with the entire “The Purge” series. As absurd as this dystopia may seem, it makes you wonder for yourself if it weren’t actually how it would be if it were real. “The Purge” and the following parts bring out the worst in people, even if it’s only for twelve hours.
