This Apple gimmick is back!

If you are a taller Mac user, you still need to know this iTunes widget. The Apple gimick is now back!

With updates, companies like Microsoft and Apple sometimes choose to omit some things. Because it is outdated, or because it is not a popular application. Sometimes handy DIYers bring these kinds of gimmicks back again. A nice trip of nostalgia. That is now also the case with the iTunes widget.

This widget was part of Mac OS X Tiger over 15 years ago. You could minimize the iTunes player this way. Via the iTunes widget it was possible to see which track was playing, you could pause the track or select a next song. You have undoubtedly used it before if you are a long-term Mac user. Were or are you more into Windows, then you probably have a similar experience with Windows Media Player on Windows XP.

It is not Apple that is breathing new life into the iTunes widget, but programmer Mario Guzman. He has devised a perfect replica that is almost indistinguishable from the original. Even the functionalities of the past have been taken over. You must have an Apple Music subscription to use it. The widget is in fact not compatible with other music services. (via The Verge)
