This app improves your crappy photos or makes them even uglier
With this app you can improve your photos that you are standing on. Or it fails and you stand on it like a pancake. Judge yourself!
Many people are afraid of artificial intelligence, but the fact is that it is increasingly playing an important role in our lives. Its proponents like to say that it unleashes new artistic ideas. And that it reduces the time makers spend on monotonous work. The opponents argue, however, that the techniques distort reality and propagate an artificial homogeneity. Now there’s a new app that gives low-quality images a makeover with high-resolution — and the results can be impressive.
App with AI for photos
The app therefore works with ‘artificial intelligence’. The system was created by researchers at the Tencent ARC Lab in China. It uses a generative adversarial network (GAN) architecture to enhance faces in old, damaged, and blurry photos. The features are then restored and refined to generate an upscaled image. What is ‘scary’ about it is that China has been working for a long time to recognize people on the street. This can help.
The researchers themselves say, “While previous methods struggled to restore faithful facial details or maintain facial identity, our proposed GFP-GAN achieves a good balance between authenticity and fidelity with far fewer artifacts,” the study authors wrote in their paper. “In addition, the powerful generative facial treatment allows us to perform restoration and color enhancement together.”
There are some results online. Unlike many AIphoto tools, it also generated comparable accuracy across a wide range of subjects. The problem is that this accuracy was very inconsistent. Judge yourself!
