Third-party providers will soon be able to use the 120 Hertz display on the iPhone 13 Pro

On Friday the time had finally come: The first models of the iPhone 13 left the logistics centers and were handed over to their buyers in Germany by DHL or UPS. With the new models, a few small bugs in the new iOS 15 were discovered, one of which only affects owners of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

We are talking about a problem with the screen, which works at up to 120 Hertz, depending on the application or gesture. It quickly became clear that this function only works with Apple apps, and individual system animations were still limited to 60 Hertz. Apple has since commented on the problem and quickly resolved the cause.

Accordingly, third-party providers can also benefit from the 120 Hertz without any major problems. For this purpose, a certain key file must be made available in the app, then the system recognizes that it can work with more than 60 Hertz. Documentation on this will be published shortly.

The screen does not currently always run at up to 120 Hertz

Only the standard animations and scrolling are carried out at 120 Hertz by default. Developers don’t have to write a new line of code here. Game developers have to weigh up, however, if the screen needs to be refreshed frequently, then the end device’s battery life will logically suffer. So here you have to decide which has priority.

The problem with system animations not running as smoothly as possible is a bug that Apple will fix in one of the next updates. Unfortunately, the launch of the new iPhones this year has been spoiled a bit, in the past few days there has already been a small update for iPhone 13 owners.

Own opinion:

It is a bit strange that Apple only talks about documentation that has yet to be published after discovering the problem. After all, you could have made a clean sweep from the start and given developers more time. Buyers will have to wait a little longer until they can take full advantage of their device.
