third in two weeks

The Vodafone network in the Netherlands was again affected by a major national outage today. The network could not be used for hours; calling and using the internet became impossible.

Third failure at Vodafone

For the third time in two weeks, Vodafone customers have been affected by a malfunction. The outage in the Dutch network lasted for hours. Calling, texting and using the internet had become impossible for a group of customers due to the outage. The emergency number 112 was also difficult to reach due to the outage. According to some reports, it could take just half a minute before they got someone from the emergency services on the line, because the connection could not be made.

Today’s outage started just after noon, around 1:00 PM. Vodafone itself only gave the message about a malfunction around 2.30 pm, while until that time ‘it would not have been known to them’. Just after 4 p.m. Vodafone reported that the network failure had been resolved. No cause is mentioned. On 12 and 14 October there were also hours-long disruptions at Vodafone. It is not known whether this malfunction is also related to this.

Vodafone is holding back on questions from customers about possible compensation. They refer to their terms and conditions; if there is an outage of 12 hours or longer, a compensation scheme will be initiated. That is not the case now, the provider reports.
