Thief buys tons of Bitcoin with Apple Pay

On the dark web, you can buy anything you shouldn’t. Weapons, drugs and also stolen credit cards. An Atlanta thief was eventually caught, but not before he made significant expenditures with stolen credit cards through Apple Pay, including purchasing Bitcoin.

The thief bought prepaid smartphones and linked more than 500 stolen credit cards to Apple Pay on the smartphones. He had obtained those credit cards through the dark web. In total, more than $600,000 worth of luxury goods were purchased and nearly $100,000 worth of Bitcoin. From MacBooks to a Rolex, everything was bought. This happened in the period 2017 and 2018. Not only did the thief act, but two childhood friends were also involved in the actions. The purchases were made in eight different states.

Authorities were eventually able to catch the thief. The judge has ruled that the man from Atlanta will spend three years behind bars. He also has to pay $624,000 in damages.
