These two new features make your life easier

With the rollout of iOS 16.2 in mid-December 2022, Apple has brought some minor features to the world’s iPhones. The iPhone search in particular has improved enormously as a result. This applies to images and the settings.

Every year, loyal Apple fans wait for the big new iOS update. Most of the time, this comes with the new iPhones in the fall. However, it often takes time before the operating system and all new functions are actually rolled out.

Likewise, not every innovation or every improvement is visible at first glance. Sometimes this requires you to dig deep into your Apple device’s settings, other times it’s an invisible feature that you can’t see with your eyes at all.

iOS 16.2: Apple improves iPhone search in settings

With the last major update of the operating system to version 16.2 in mid-December 2022, Apple rolled out numerous new functions. In many cases, these are hidden functions or performance updates. Of course, they are still practical.

Apple is making its users aware of the improved iPhone search.

A key focus of the recent updates is the iPhone search. Despite all the artificial intelligence (AI) around Apple’s Siri, this has been one of the biggest weaknesses of the Cupertino-based company for years.

That’s why the developers at Apple have also made users aware of the update for the iPhone search with a small but clearly visible notice. (see the screenshot)

And indeed: the search within the settings is helpful for what feels like the first time after years of use.

The suggestions and suitable categories finally put an end to the annoying search in numerous sub-menus. With a click on the appropriate search suggestion, you will land directly in the right place.

But Apple users are not only finding their way around better in the settings. The iPhone manufacturer’s engineering team also worked on the image search – and you can tell that immediately.

While numerous Android smartphones have had excellent subject and image recognition within their own photo gallery for a long time, the situation on iPhones looked rather bleak. And this is exactly where Apple has made improvements.

The iPhone search for the Photos app – or, of course, the image recognition and AI behind iPhone search – has received a noticeable refresh.

Suddenly, searching for terms like “car”, “tree” or “bank card” leads to meaningful results. So if the account data has to be passed on to your best friend quickly, there is no longer any tedious search work required.
