Apple announces WWDC 2023

Apple has officially announced WWDC 2023. This is Apple’s own event, announcing a series of new products every year. During this annual event, Apple also presents new software updates for almost all products.

WWDC 2023 will again last five days. Developers and students are then welcome (if invited) at the Apple Park in Cupertino, California. But what products will Apple launch this year at WWDC 2023?

1. Apple Reality Pro is finally presented

The most important announcement this year is the presentation of the Apple Reality. We’ve been waiting for years for Apple’s first VR glasses and they are finally expected to be unveiled this year. According to rumors, the Apple Reality development team wanted to postpone the launch again, but Tim Cook has refused. According to these rumors, he insists that the glasses will be presented in June.

Apple’s first VR glasses won’t be one for the general public. Apple Reality Pro will have a retail price of approximately $ 3,000. This means that the glasses are mainly intended for companies to use for streaming video content and for communication, such as video calling. Meanwhile, Apple is already working on cheaper VR glasses, the Apple Reality One.

The launch of the Apple Reality Pro is expected to be the hardware announcement of WWDC 2023. Read what we know so far about Apple’s first VR glasses here.

2. iOS 17 is announced

Traditionally, Apple presents the latest version of iOS at WWDC every year. This year is expected to be no different. Apple will announce iOS 17 this time. It was previously claimed that this would not be a major iOS update due to the launch of the Apple Reality. Now it appears that a number of cool new functions are coming to your iPhone.

It is not yet entirely clear which functions these are. The split screen feature may be coming to your iPhone and the Dynamic Island is likely to get some new tricks. In addition, CarPlay is completely renewed, in which iOS 17 will play an important role. In addition, new, alternative App Stores are coming to your iPhone. Read all the rumors about iOS 17 here.

3. New MacBook Air is coming

Apple Reality is probably not the only product Apple will unveil at WWDC 2023, as a new MacBook Air is also on the way. Last year, Apple also unveiled the MacBook Air 2022 with M2 chip at WWDC. Apple is expected to launch the MacBook Air 2023 this year, with a new M3 chip.

The main change is that the M3 chip appears in a 3-nanometer version (the M1 and M2 were still based on the 5-nanometer format). The switch to this new format has a major advantage, as Apple’s new M3 chip is a lot more energy efficient. This way, you can use one battery charge even longer and your laptop won’t get as hot as you use it.

Also interesting: Apple is working on a larger version of the MacBook Air. The new MacBook has a 15-inch screen, so you don’t have to immediately switch to a MacBook Pro for a MacBook with a larger screen. The MacBook with the 15-inch screen will probably not get an M3 chip, but will stick with the ‘old’ M2 processor.

More software updates at WWDC 2023

In addition to iOS 17, WWDC 2023 will likely also release updates for your Mac, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. Apple will then launch iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, watchOS 10 and macOS 14. It remains to be seen whether these will be major updates, because the attention of Apple’s developers has mainly gone to Apple Reality in recent months.
