WhatsApp is for many the most important app on the phone. Apping has even become a verb and that shows how often we use this Messenger to stay in touch with friends or family. Unfortunately, WhatsApp cannot continue to support all old versions and phones and from November 1 next year some changes have been made again. This means that you can no longer use WhatsApp on some older smartphones or that some functions on these phones no longer work.

Which phones will no longer work with WhatsApp?

If your Android is on Android version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or higher, you’re in the right place. WhatsApp support will stop on November 1, 2021 for all phones with an older Android version, so Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich). This Android version was announced in March 2021, which is nine years ago. In that year, the LG Nexus 4, the Samsung Galaxy S3, the LG Optimus G and the HTC One X were launched.

iPhone owners must have an iPhone running at least iOS 10 or later. WhatsApp will stop support for the iPhone 4 and 4S, among other things.

What can you do?

For the phones that run on the above software, WhatsApp will stop the development of its app. So it is possible that some functions no longer work. New functions will of course also not be usable. You can also no longer create new accounts or re-verify existing accounts. So uninstalling and reinstalling the chat app will cause problems and making a backup is recommended.
