iPod touch from the range

It had been coming for a while, but the iPod touch is now really disappearing from Apple’s range. In a press release, the company confirms that the music player is no longer being made. You can still buy the device at the moment, but only while supplies last.

The iPod touch was the last iPod sold by Apple. It was last updated in 2019 and then got a faster A10 chip. At the time, the product had actually already been overtaken by time. You can now also find all the functions of the iPod on your smartphone. The group that wanted an iPod but not a mobile phone became smaller and smaller.

The iPod touch from 2019

Marketing manager Greg Joswiak says on Apple’s website that the spirit of the iPod lives on: “All of our products offer a great music experience. From the iPhone to the Apple Watch and the HomePod mini and on the Mac, iPad and Apple TV. And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for Spatial Audio.”

RIP iPod: 2001-2022

The iPod has been invaluable to Apple. The first model, which came on the market in October 2001, was the beginning of a period of success for the then rather small company. At the time, the device had an old-fashioned 5GB hard drive, enough for about 1000 songs. And all that in your pocket.

Apple released many different models in the years that followed, with more and more storage space and possibilities. Also appeared the small iPod mini, nano, shuffle and thus the iPod touch. After the introduction of the iPhone in 2007, the popularity of the iPod gradually declined. Fortunately we still have the pictures.
