These holiday homes were quite disappointing: ‘We barely slept’

When the spacious villa on the holiday site turns out to be a musty garage on arrival, you know that from now on you should take a closer look before clicking the reservation button.

Lisa (40), mother of Bram (9) and Olivier (6):

“We regularly go on holiday with two other couples. With a set of requirements of six adults and eight children, it takes evenings of googling before the ideal spot is found. But last year we had managed to book a beautiful place in Provence.

Breathtaking view

Upon arrival, it turned out that the photos on the internet had been taken from the only favorable angle of the campsite. Without the caravans that were packed together, the view was indeed breathtaking. But if you turned around, it was one big sandy area, full of dusty campers, all cooling off in the unfinished pool.”

A stone’s throw away

Mara (32), mother of Douwe (1):

“The luxury apartment was three hundred meters from the bustling village center, we read in the description. So we could walk to the terrace every evening, with Douwe in the stroller. we thought. Because those three hundred meters turned out to be as the crow flies. In reality we had to face sixteen hairpin bends on an eighty kilometer road, by car of course.”

Ice cold shower

Juliette (34), mother of Nina (4) and Emma (2):

“The mobile home was right next to the waste disposal site of the campsite and consisted of cardboard walls. The furniture was incomplete, the shower ice cold and the mattresses paper thin. The big glasses of Aperol Spritz and the entertainment from 5pm were my salvation.”

Beautiful garden shed

Ellen (32), mother of Jelle (5):

“Every year I go away for a weekend with my mother and my sister. We don’t have very high demands for our mother-daughter weekend, but when we stood at the door of our bed & breakfast last year I checked the address in my email three times, because that converted garage looked nothing like the idyllic garden house of the site. And it turned out to be so claustrophobic that we barely slept for two nights.”
