These are the new features for the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic were announced in August 2021 and equipped with the new Wear OS 3. The smart watches now receive new functions for the dials, among other things, via a software update. android world gives you an overview of the new features.

Four new watch faces

Four new wallpapers are coming to the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 series. If you’re determined to hit your fitness goals – or just want to keep an eye on your health stats – you can customize the new Info Brick watch face with the stats you care about most. From heart rate and stress to daily activity status. You can also choose a watch face that displays a detailed weather forecast, a watch face with a simple dashboard, or a watch face with live wallpapers inspired by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Mix and match features

In addition, the animal dial gets more options. You can mix and match up to four functions to display on your animal watch face – from battery life to reminders, messages, your steps and much more. You can now also choose an animated GIF for your My Photo+ watch face, instead of just a static photo.

Pedometer watch face gets animations

Samsung also wants to motivate you to reach your daily step goal. For that, the pedometer dial gets more animations. There’s an animated bear that follows you every step of the way in your competition – from stretching before starting a challenge to cheering when you win.

New hand movement

You can move the Galaxy Watch 4 up and down twice with your forearm to receive calls and twist your wrist twice to reject calls or ignore alarms. Samsung now comes with a new hand movement to activate a self-chosen app or function. You do this via a ‘knock, knock’ movement.

You can then open a pre-selected app, view the list of workouts, turn on a light, or create a new reminder. This hand gesture lets you access an app or feature – your favorite or most used – without lifting a finger or pressing a button.

fall detection

Fall detection was first introduced in the 2020 Galaxy Watch series. The feature can detect a fall during exercise. Now on the Galaxy Watch 4, you can choose to adjust the sensitivity so that it can detect a fall even when you’re standing still. In addition, Galaxy Watch 4 can send an SOS notification to up to four pre-selected contacts.

Free 60-day Strava subscription

Finally, Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 offers users a free 60-day Strava subscription. You can then train on the Galaxy Watch with the Strava app. With the paid version of Strava you get extensive training analysis, training plans, safety features, personal heatmaps and more.

The update will initially be available on Bluetooth versions of the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Requires the latest version of the Galaxy Wearable app and the Galaxy Watch 4 plugin.
