Potje is a Dutch app that wants to help you and your friends to save money together for a holiday, festival, gift or other purpose. This app has now been updated with some new features.

Save with Potty

Potje is a savings platform that can help friends, family or colleagues to save money together. Think of a jar for a joint holiday, a fundraising campaign by the sports club, the purchase of a new refrigerator in a student house or for a team outing with colleagues.

According to Reurink, saving together for a goal is complicated: “Many Dutch people want to save, but find it difficult to translate this into active saving behaviour. Let alone in a group. If you think on a spontaneous night out that it is sometimes nice to go on holiday together, then the execution will fail the next day because no one wants to take responsibility for collecting the money.” Potje wants to make implementation a lot easier by creating a joint pot via the app, creating light peer pressure to pay on time and using the savings process to work towards the ultimate goal.

Update for the app

The companion app is now getting an update with the following new features:

• From now on, the group’s money is kept separate and can be paid out whenever the group wishes
• You no longer need a premium account
• Click on a participant to see his/her statistics
• Everyone automatically receives reminders to pay on time
• Click on the bell to send a reminder yourself
• Add a gif as a profile picture

According to founder of Potje Bastiaan Reurink, the most important improvement for the app is where the group’s money is now. In the previous version, the bank account of the person who created the jar was used. As a result, only this person could manage the money but not donate money into the pot himself. From now on, the group’s money is separate and it is really an external pot. In this way, Potje wants to create extra security for the group and make it more attractive for group members to take on the treasurer role. The pot can then be paid out at any time.
