iOS 16.1.2: new features

The previous update (iOS 16.1.1) has only just been released, or the next one is already ready for your iPhone. Unfortunately, there are no new features in iOS 16.1.2, but a few important updates are being made.

The most important update in iOS 16.1.2 is for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. A few things have changed in the accident detection (English: Crash Detection). Apple’s Crash Detection is a brand new feature for the iPhone 14 (Plus), iPhone 14 Pro (Max), Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE 2022 and Apple Watch Ultra.

If you get into a collision while driving, you will receive a notification on your iPhone or smartwatch. You then have 10 seconds to cancel this notification. If you do not do this (because you are unconscious, for example), Crash Detection will immediately call the emergency services. Whether this update will fix the issues with accidentally activating the feature during a wild rollercoaster ride is unknown…

Download iOS 16.1.2

The update is now available for every iPhone with iOS 16. How to download iOS 16.1.2:

  1. Make sure your iPhone battery is at least 50 percent full, or connect it to the charger;
  2. Go to the Settings app and tap on ‘General’;
  3. Choose “Software Update” and tap “Download and Install.”

Latest features of iOS 16.1

The major iOS 16.1 update appeared at the end of October. This included some cool new features.

1. Live Activities

For example, you can see the score of a sports match without having to unlock your iPhone. A parcel service can also keep you informed of the estimated arrival time via the access screen.

2. Shared Library

iOS 16.1 also introduces a new way to share photos. You can create a shared album in iCloud to share photos with up to five other people.

3. Battery percentage improvements

In iOS 16, the battery percentage returned to the battery icon. With iOS 16.1, the icon corresponds to the percentage. Apple is also bringing the percentage to more iPhones, so the iPhone XR, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini can also add it.
