These are the most unbelievable iPhone 14 rumors (so far)

The iPhone rumor mill is in full swing. The new model has yet to be presented, but not all messages are equally reliable. These are the most unbelievable iPhone 14 rumors so far.

Read on after the ad.

Don’t believe all iPhone 14 rumors

September is creeping closer and for Apple enthusiasts, that means only one thing: new iPhones. When CEO Tim Cook takes the stage to announce the new models, there are rarely any surprises for Apple followers.

In the run-up to the presentation, (almost) all information leaks out early via rumours. For example, it seems that the iPhone 13 mini will not get a successor, the iPhone 14 Pros have a new design and the camera is being overhauled.

But, always keep an eye out. There are plenty of rumors about the iPhone 14 that do not seem credible. An overview.

1. ProMotion for all iPhones

Last January, bank claimed Haitong International Securities that all iPhone 14 models will have a so-called ProMotion screen. Such a display refreshes its pixels 120 times per second, instead of the usual 60 times. The result: animations scroll much more smoothly across the screen.

This message has since been considerably watered down by other tipsters. It now appears that only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have a ProMotion screen. The ‘normal’ models therefore keep it at a refresh rate of 60 Hz.

2. New Color: Purple

What colors will the iPhone 14 be available in? According to a shadowy rumor from China (via AppleTrack) you will soon be able to choose purple. In April, a Weibo account, a Chinese social medium, shared details about the alleged color options of the iPhone 14.

According to this source, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max are available in blue, red, black, white and purple. If you go for a Pro model, you can choose from graphite, gold, silver and purple.

The rumor was widely covered in the media, but the original source quickly deleted her/his post. So little can be said about reliability.

3. A titanium case

Bank analysts JP Morgan Chase predicted last year that the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) will have a titanium housing. That would be an interesting twist, since only the Apple Watch Series 6 is equipped with this material so far.

Other tipsters have not yet dared to venture into this rumor, so take the claim with a grain of salt.

4. The SIM card disappears

Apple sees no future in physical SIM cards. According to website sources MacRumors the company will switch to eSim in the coming years. This electronic SIM card replaces the physical SIM card and ensures, for example, that you can switch cards more easily (digitally).

However, it remains to be seen whether the iPhone 14 series will switch completely to eSim, as this option is not yet supported in all countries. A possible option is that you will soon be able to choose an iPhone 14 with a ‘normal’ SIM card slot, or an eSim. It is also possible that Apple delays the introduction of eSim by a year.

5. Goodbye Lightning, hello usb-c

The iPhone has to say goodbye to the trusted Lightning connection, but the question is when. After all, the European Commission has recently decided that electronic devices will have to switch to the much more widely supported USB-C standard in the future.

Apple still has some time, because the law will come into effect in the fall of 2024. 2022 is therefore probably too early, but the iPhone 15 may switch to USB-C.

6. Face ID is hiding

We’ve been hearing rumors for years that the Face ID sensors are moving to behind the screen. The practical advantage of this is that the screen notch can disappear, because the facial recognition is behind the display.

Unfortunately, this innovation seems to come too early for the iPhone 14. According to reliable sources, the Pro versions even get two holes in the screen: a pill-shaped and a round. So, Face ID is most likely not going anywhere. The ‘normal’ iPhone 14 gets the old and trusted notch.

Looking ahead

So these implausible iPhone 14 rumors are probably wrong. Fortunately, reliable information is also available. In the overview below we list the most important and credible iPhone 14 rumors.
