There is an Android phone with a lightning port
While almost all smartphones charge via USB-C, there is one brand that will always remain stubborn: Apple. If you want to charge your iPhone, you need Apple’s own lightning cable, because it connects perfectly to the lightning port. Android phones have never had such a port, but that’s about to change. At least for one phone.

There has been an enthusiast who has built a lightning port in an Android phone. Not only visually, because you can actually charge the phone with it. He previously did it the other way around: he just built a USB-C port in an iPhone. It’s about Kenny Pillonel, an engineer who wanted to show what a USB-C looks like in an iPhone and what a lightning port looks like in an Android phone.
It has probably not been easy at all to get this done, especially because he has used a fairly recent device for it: Samsung Galaxy A51. In a video that the Swiss smart guy has made, he calls it – probably completely right – the world’s first Android phone with lightning port. The fact that he writes ‘This is it’ seems to imply that it was not an easy process.
USB standard
He also indicates in the video itself that his Android lightning phone is a technical masterpiece. Although it seems to have been easier than adding USB-C to an iPhone. He told Engadget: “The first reason is that I’m getting better at it because I’m learning new things every day, so hopefully I can finish these mods faster and faster. The second reason is that the quality of the end product is nowhere near what it was before the iPhone.”
The video in which he shows how he did it has yet to be released online, but the chances of you imitating the best man are probably slim. After all, what do you want with an Android phone that works with Apple’s port? You are better off with the much more universal USB-C standard, which is also present on almost all smart home gadgets. Still, it’s quite an achievement from Kenny, even if this crossover feels a bit strange. Plus, the EU also prefers the USB-C standard for all gadgets.
