The coronavirus pandemic has ushered in a huge change in the past two years. More and more people are working from home (if possible), and returning to the office like before the pandemic seems unrealistic for many. But, especially in your own four walls, one topic usually takes a back seat: ergonomics.

This is where many manufacturers come in and sell one or the other gadget to make your working day more ergonomic. Height-adjustable desks have also become more affordable and are increasingly being used in private households. That’s why I took a closer look at a configuration of the E7 from Flexispot in the past few weeks.

First of all: The desk was provided to us free of charge by Flexispot, but this in no way influenced the opinion in this article.

Something different for everyone

Before we can even start setting up, we have to order the table in the official Flexispot shop. One thing stands out very positively here: There are almost infinite possible combinations. In addition to the actual table frame, which is available in white, silver and black, you can also choose between different colors and materials for the table top.

If, on the other hand, you already have a table top or are unable to find a choice in the official shop, you can just order the table frame and build your own table top. Flexispot also offers accessories, including cable ducts, pipes for cable management, monitor brackets and desk chairs. If you start from scratch, you can put together your entire workstation in the configurator.

But there is one thing missing in the configurator: table tops in different shapes. So there will certainly be one or the other who prefer an L-shape to get a little more space on the desk. In the official shop, however, only rectangular panels (with or without a notch in the middle) from 120 × 60 cm are offered.

Preferably in pairs

Once ordered, it will be shipped in a different number of packages, depending on the configuration. To make the setup as comfortable as possible, however, you should invite a friend or ask your partner for help. Because although the desk can also be set up on its own, it can quickly happen that pilot holes are not ideally drilled or that the rotation does not work so easily.

If, on the other hand, there are two of you, the setup is relatively simple and quick. The required screws are included, and there is also a suitable hexagon wrench at hand. The instructions are available in different languages ​​and clearly explain which parts have to be connected with which screw. Those in need of visual help can use the video tutorial linked above. Also very exemplary: Flexispot supplies more screws than are needed. So if something gets lost, that’s not a problem. After about 30 minutes the table will be in the desired position (alone I would calculate around 45–60 minutes).

Solid construction

But how does the E7 combination fare in terms of quality? The table frame is made of steel and feels accordingly stable and of high quality. The paintwork (in my case white) is applied evenly, I could not detect any chipping or other unevenness during the construction and testing. The table does not wobble even in the highest setting, so there is little to complain about here.

The table top is made of hardwood, in my configuration I chose the “cherry tree color” version. Here, too, the workmanship makes an excellent impression at first glance, the wood looks beautiful and is evenly sealed on the surface. This has an advantage: if damage should occur to the surface after years of use, it can be relatively easily sanded down, resealed and repaired in this way.

The element for controlling the height is made of plastic. After screwing it to the underside of the table, it sticks firmly to the plate and never looks wobbly or inferior.

Overall, the table can carry a weight of up to 125 kilograms without really breaking a sweat.

Save and press

Now we come to the most important category: ergonomics. With the E7 table frame, the table top can be moved up and down as required using the control module. This enables a height adjustment of 58 to 123 centimeters. That should probably cover the height of most users: inside. The control module just mentioned brings some useful functionalities with it.

Up to four profiles can be saved, these are numbered (1 and 2) or use a picture of a standing and sitting person. The latter two options are therefore ideal for storing your own standing and sitting height, you can handle the other two profiles flexibly. You can either set this up for use by a second person or you can define additional heights for cleaning or for a neutral state.

Saving the values ​​is relatively simple: set the height, press the “M” button and select the appropriate profile. You can then comfortably switch to the corresponding mode at the touch of a button.

Another great benefit is locking the current altitude. As soon as you keep the “M” key pressed, the module locks all further entries. If you accidentally come to the control module, nothing happens at first, you have to deactivate the lock mode again before the next setting.

The perfect addition to the home office

So what can be said in conclusion about the E7 combination by Flexispot? Almost only positive! For a price from around 430 euros you get an excellent height-adjustable desk that can be configured according to your wishes. By saving profiles, setting the optimal height is child’s play, the frame and the tops on offer give the impression that you will enjoy your desk for a long time.

It should also be positively emphasized that Flexispot uses wood of FSC-certified origin for its products, i.e. the table tops come from sustainably managed forests. It’s not that negative that an L-shaped option is not part of the manufacturer’s repertoire.
