The Switch isn’t fun that way

There is no question that the Switch is and will remain an absolute console bestseller. Nevertheless, our tech editor is bothered by a major problem with the handheld console. Therefore he demands: Nintendo, please fix it!

A comment by Felix Gräber.

Nintendo Switch: I have a love-hate relationship with the console

I may not be a hardcore fan of the Nintendo Switch, it’s just that, I’m Sony-socialized. Still, I think the console is pretty awesome, in terms of flexibility neither Playstation 5 nor Xbox Series X/S can keep up. Handheld, portable and classic console in one – if you’re looking for that, you’ll only find it at Nintendo. But in one respect, the Nintendo Switch drives me regularly to the brink of despairbecause often I just can’t get to grips with the movement controls of the Joy-Con controllers.

For a better understanding, an example from Super Mario Party: Marching and jabbing lances in time or hitting the baseball bat at just the right moment for the perfect home run – especially the many different mini-games that deal with rhythm simply appealed to me as a drummer. It is all the more frustrating when these are regularly interrupted by system warnings.

I can’t count – nor will I bother – the number of times our home switch has instructed me not to hit hard, not swing too far, etc. It says I should be aware of my surroundings and my fellow players. Good, right and important, that’s right, I do that too. But every time the game is interrupted by the displayed system message. When it comes to timing, it is really annoying to be torn out of the flow like that.

But what can I do? I’m just over 1.80 m, have long arms and my head refuses previously stubborn, controlling a baseball bat with a little flick of the wrist as if I were standing at a miniature ping-pong table.

There have been complaints about the Joy-Con drift for quite some time – and rightly so. cig YouTube videos show how to fix the problem. But I need the opportunity to Lowering the sensitivity of the joy-con’s motion controls. When I swing a digital baseball bat, I need to be able to use my whole arm.

Gross motorists don’t stand a chance: the Joy-Cons don’t exactly work delicately

From Nintendo’s point of view, this may be a niche problem that only affects a few players. Or you just want to play it safe? Not being held responsible if I “thrash about” at home? When I’m not playing, I can understand that. Despite it in the heat of battle it spoils the fun of the game and it doesn’t have to be.

And it goes on: if, for example, I lift my digital baton up with a swing while marching in Super Mario Party, the switch often registers two or even three movements: up – down – up. There are no points for this, not in the game and not from me for Nintendo either. I’m probably too rough, I’ll be punished as a gross motorist.

Despite my difficulties, do you want to play Super Mario Party? More about the game in the trailer:

Nintendo, please help!

Granted, part of the problem could also be explained by latency. A faster gaming TV won’t hurt if you’re facing the same problem. Nevertheless, I would like to break a lance here for all those who fail to pierce the lance. you are not alone

I would like Nintendo to work on bringing video games and reality closer together. Maybe something can be done before the release of the new variant with OLED and 4K? At least since The Big Bang Theory, we know of course that the game and console developers can only accommodate us to a limited extent. If you want to have a real playing experience, you can get creative and just like Sheldon after archery, pull the arrows off the screen.

That’s how seriously I take Nintendo’s warning that I won’t strap my Joy-Con to a baseball bat with the Ring Fit strap. After all, I pay attention to my teammates.
