Qualcomm has just unveiled the Snapdragon 778. This mid-range chip receives improvements in order to equip 5G smartphones and above all to improve the photographic experience.
In the internal chip market, two leaders stand out: Qualcomm and Mediatek. If the second is the one that dominated in 2020, the American brand is not stingy when it comes to innovations. The latest chip is the Snapdragon 778 5G. This is a 5G compatible processor that is expected to equip many of the mid-range devices coming to the market. It should provide excellent performance in animation, gaming and on the camera.
The Snapdragon 778G should equip future Oppo and Xiaomi smartphones
The brand new Qualcomm processor will be accompanied by an Adreno 642L GPU to ensure gaming performance. The Snapdragon 778G thus seems destined to equip 5G smartphones targeting the mid-range. For the European market, the chip would likely be found in Xiaomi, Oppo, Honor, Realme or Motorola devices. The new internal processor will also be compatible with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. In terms of connection, the smartphone is therefore already there to ensure normal operation. The great strength of the processor is to be entitled to elements already present on the Snapdragon 888 for the photographic part.
The 778G indeed integrates a triple image sensor within it. The Spectra 570K can therefore process images from three different lenses. On wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto lenses, the chip is able to operate all three sensors at the same time. The Snapdragon 778G also allows devices to record 4K video with HDR 10+. For the moment, Qualcomm has not issued additional information on the arrival of its chip. However, it should make its appearance in a number of mid-range 5G smartphones within a few weeks.
